Emman kouluun kirjoittama kertomus retkestä.
In the beginning of August my family and I left for the West. On the first day on the road we started driving North through Waterloo, to Northern Iowa. Soon we crossed over to beautiful Minnesota. We drove through Minneapolis and through the state. Then we drove over the border of North Dakota, the Sunflower State. We spent the night in Fargo, a city in western North Dakota. The next day we drove to Knife River to see some places where Indians used to live long ago. Then we drove on past the vast fields of sunflowers to go see a rare albino buffalo that was completely white which the Indians called sacred. The buffalo’s name was White Cloud.
After that we drove into Theodore Roosevelt National Park. That was where we decided to stay for that night but we still had time before sun down so we decided to drive around the park to see the beautiful over looks of the park. On the way back to our camp we saw a huge mass of brown covering the road in front of us. When we drove closer we noticed it was a bison herd walking on the street heading our way. Cameras out and ready we let the herd walk around our car as my mom and dad snapped photos of the bison. After that encounter with the bison we thought we had had enough for that day and headed to our camp. That was the second day of our adventure.
The next day we drove into Montana and drove down to Yellowstone National P ark. That was our second time in the park and that was where we stayed for the night. On the day after that we drove back north again and headed for Glacier National Park. That was where we stayed for that night. Our campground had a lake nearby so we went swimming. The water was very clear and very cold! The next day we traveled west toward Idaho. After we crossed the border we headed for Coeur d’Alene. When we got there, we visited the lake of Coeur d’Alene. After that we crossed the border of Washington and headed for Pasco where we planned to stay for the night. The next day we drove down to Oregon’s beautiful beaches. We couldn’t find a camp ground that wasn’t full and most of the hotels were full too, so we finally found an Indian casino hotel that wasn’t full, so we stayed there for the night. The next day we drove down the coastline checking out every beach that was there. We went swimming in the seawater and got all sandy and soaked. Soon we passed California’s border pulled of to inland.
That day we set camp at the out skirts of Yosemite National Park, and little did we know that that night was going to be a long one. That night I woke up because of a noise outside our tent. Then I heard some growling outside the tent and I immediately knew what it was, a bear. The ranger had warned us about bears in the campground, but I never thought it would happen. I stayed up most of the night until the ranger got her dog to chase the bear away, and it worked. After that day we bought a wooden bear to remember that night from. The next day we drove through Yosemite to end up in Reno, Nevada, where we stayed in Flamingo Hilton Hotel. The next day we drove the loneliest road in the U.S. through Nevada’s deserts. That day we stayed at a hotel in Cedar City, Utah and it was raining. The day after that we traveled through Utah and most of Colorado. That day we slept in Sterling at a hotel east of Denver. The next day we traveled through Nebraska and Iowa to end up home.
The trip was a lot of fun and the best part about it was probably the beaches!
Elokuussa 2000 matkalla Tyynen meren rannoilla asti. Yosemiten kansallispuistossa saatiin kokemusta karhuista...
Biisonilauma katkaisee tien Pohjois-Dakotassa /Badlands.
Yosemiten kansallispuistossa Kaliforniassa.
